This is the STRONGEST political position within the party. This picture I created shows the difference between politicians and party members. When we think of leaders within the Republican Party, we often think of Marjorie Taylor Greene or Matt Gaetz, we think of Mitch McConnel or Kevin McCarthy. None of these people are actually "Party Leaders". They are all politicians.

Ronna McDaniels, Joe Gruters, Jim Waurishuk, Steve Stern, Dan Schultz... THESE are Party Leaders. Now some of these are National, State or County Chairs, but some of them are also Precinct Committeemen and women (PCMs), Precinct Captains or Precinct Chairs. (Every State/County seems to have their own vernacular.) Both politicians and party leaders are technically "publicly elected officials". Generally speaking though, it is only politicians that we often see on our ballots. On rare occasion you will see a PCM on the ballot. This is because there are only a set number of positions available for a given number of registered voters.

In Florida, our PCMs are determined by how many registered voters are in a precinct. You can have one Precinct Committeeman (PCM) and one Precinct Committeewoman (PCW) per every one thousand voters. So in my precinct, there are 2400 registered voters. This means we can have 3 PCM and 3 PCWs. There are 448 precincts in Hillsborough County, FL., so you can imagine, there are a lot of available seats, 2,268 to be exact. If a precinct has 2,400 people and there are 4 men interested in the position, the 4th person will become an "alternate". When the next Presidential election cycle comes around, all 4 men's names will end up on the primary ballot for that precinct to vote on the main 3, and the 4th person will become the alternate.

The Republican Party is structured to truly be a representative body. It is based on the number of registered voters. If you would like to increase your PCM/PCWs overall, you would just need to register more voters in a given precinct to get over the next 1k threshold. The Democrats are more of a power structure. They are designed top-down, vice bottom up, like the Republican Party. Their structure is 2 PCM/2 PCW per precinct regardless of how many registered voters. They have a max capacity at 1,792 PCM/PCWs. Where this really comes into play is precincts with 10,468 registered voters. Four people have to find the volunteers to reach that many registered voters. This gives the Republican Party a massive advantage. Republican PCMs, at full capacity, represent approximately 500 voters or less. If you hit every single voter in my precinct, 6 people could knock on 2400 doors in 5 two-hour days. In the precinct with 10,468 people, that's 2,617 doors per person and would take 25 two-hour days to accomplish.

With these numbers, it really makes you question exactly WHY the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) is hyper focused on raising money (that they don't really seem to give to races other than state level House and Senate) and encouraging voters to "vote by mail" (VBM) because "it gives us a better idea of where we stand leading up to the election and how much more we need to work". Anyone alive with a consciousness after the 2020 election cycle will quickly realize that there is simply nothing to gain and so much to lose with mail in ballots (VBM).

The most important thing that we do as PCMs is get candidate literature in front of voters who are often far more consumed in their every day lives than they are in local, state or national level politics. We can actually speak to voters and combat the negative mailers and commercial ads that are put out about good candidates. (I will talk in the future about how entities like the RPOF target specific voters in an effort to hurt true Conservatives in the primaries so that they get their establishment "picks" through the primaries. You are literally the very last line of defense, or possibly the first line of offense to the voter. This role is far more crucial than most people know and it's never advertised or really talked about from the party itself. This is why those of us who are now understanding this need to get involved. We need to learn the lay of the land and then formulate plans and carry them out in order to provide proof of concept of the precinct strategy. A strategy that was laid out by Dan Schultz, elevated by Steve Bannon and implemented by people like Steve Stern and other PCMs in every county across this great country. That's exactly what Hillsborough County, FL is in the process of doing.
